First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi, affirmed to the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Iraq, Samar Awadallah, on Monday, that Iraq considers supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital a legal, moral, and humanitarian duty.
The media office of the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Adnan Faihan al-Dulaimi, received the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Iraq, Samar Awadallah, at his residence on Monday." The statement added that "the meeting addressed the latest developments on the local and the regional scene, particularly the current situation in Palestine."
According to the statement, Faihan emphasized "the deep historical and fraternal ties that bind Iraq and Palestine, and the importance of strengthening joint cooperation in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples." He stressed that "Iraq, at all its official and popular levels and institutions, considers supporting the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital a legal, moral, and humanitarian duty."
He noted that "the House of Representatives, based on its unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause, enacted the law criminalizing normalization, affirming Iraq's steadfast position in supporting Palestinian rights."
For her part, the Palestinian ambassador conveyed "the thanks and appreciation of the Palestinian leadership and people to Iraq, its government and people, for its principled and unwavering stances in support of the Palestinian cause."
"The ambassador reviewed the overall situation in the Palestinian territories, and the extremely difficult humanitarian conditions that the Palestinian people are subjected to, in light of the continued crimes and violations that affect civilians."
