The Minister of Water Resources, Muthanna al-Tamimi, stressed on Monday the importance of strengthening bilateral relations with the Russian side in the field of water.

The Ministry of Water Resources stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that Minister Muthanna al-Tamimi met today with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Iraq, Elbrus Kutrashev, to discuss ways and mechanisms to enhance joint cooperation and benefit from advanced Russian expertise in water resources management and the development of this sector in the country.”

The statement added,” that the meeting addressed ways to advance the water sector in Iraq by transferring Russian expertise in modern irrigation technologies, dam construction and management, addressing the consequences of water scarcity, and developing water infrastructure.”

According to the statement, Al-Tamimi emphasized "the importance of strengthening bilateral relations with Russia in the water sector, particularly in light of the current climate challenges facing the region," stressing "Iraq's keenness to open new avenues for fruitful cooperation that serve this vital sector."

For his part, the Russian ambassador expressed "his country's readiness to transfer modern technologies and specialized expertise to Iraq and to support the Iraqi government's efforts in developing its water system, thereby contributing to achieving sustainable development and enhancing water security."
