The Speaker of the Parliament, Haibet Alhalbousi, met with the President of the Republic of Iraq, Nizar Amedi.
The Media Office of the Speaker of Parliament said in a statement, received by The Iraqi News Agency-INA that “During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed the political and security situation in the country and discussed ways to consolidate security and stability”.
The statement added,"They emphasized the importance of complementary roles between the Parliament and the Presidency to strengthen the performance of constitutional institutions. This cooperation aims to support the process of national development and reform, as well as to continue efforts to combat corruption and uphold the principles of integrity and transparency. By supporting oversight and judicial institutions, the leaders aim to recover public funds and hold those involved in corruption cases accountable, thereby protecting public resources and reinforcing public trust in state institutions”
The statement further stated that"The meeting also addressed regional developments and current events in the area, as well as efforts to spare Iraq from the repercussions of regional crises in order to safeguard its sovereignty and national interests".
