The Iraqi News Agency (INA) correspondent in Washington reported today, Friday, that Iraq and Syria signed a memorandum of understanding to rehabilitate the oil pipeline extending from Haditha to Banias, with Chevron undertaking the project.

Our correspondent stated that "Iraq will sign 50 agreements and memoranda of understanding with the American side, totaling $60 billion."

She added, "A memorandum of understanding was signed between Iraq and Syria to rehabilitate the oil pipeline extending from Haditha to Banias, with Chevron undertaking the project."

The United States welcomed the signing of the memorandum.

The US Embassy in Baghdad said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The United States welcomes the signing of a historic memorandum of understanding between the governments of Iraq and Syria regarding the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Iraq-Syria crude oil pipeline."

It added, "This vital infrastructure project will enhance security and stability by promoting regional connectivity and prosperity." American companies will play a key role in carrying out the construction work."
