Lebanon’s Hezbollah on Thursday denied reports alleging that it is operating inside Syrian territory, describing the claims as “completely false.” In a statement, Hezbollah’s media relations office said allegations regarding the group’s activities in Syria periodically re-emerge and reiterated that it had consistently rejected such claims. “Hezbollah’s media relations office reiterates its denial of these baseless allegations,” the statement said, adding that the accusations were “fabricated narratives” intended to damage the group and “serve the Zionist-American project in the region.” The statement followed an announcement by Syria’s Interior Ministry, which said its security forces had intercepted an attempt to smuggle a large shipment of weapons across the Syrian-Iraqi border before it entered Syrian territory.
