The Electricity Minister Ali Saadi Waheeb said on Wednesday that the ministry's top priority is to accelerate the implementation of strategic projects.
The Electricity Ministry's media office said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that Waheeb met in Washington with Victoria Taylor, Director of the Iraq Initiative at the Atlantic Council, and her accompanying delegation as part of his official visit to the United States.
According to the statement, the meeting reviewed the state of Iraq's electricity sector and the longstanding challenges it faces. Waheeb stressed the need to move toward swift, practical and implementable solutions to address the inherited electricity crisis, increase generation capacity, upgrade transmission and distribution networks, and secure the fuel needed to operate power plants.
The minister said the ministry's priority is to expedite the implementation of strategic projects, address bottlenecks affecting the stability of the national grid, and capitalize on international partnerships, investment and advanced technologies to achieve tangible improvements in electricity supply for citizens.
