Trump claims Iran ‘shot first’, calling it a ‘big mistake’

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he wanted to give Iran “a chance at making a deal”, but accused them of resuming hostilities “first” with the US.

“They shot first and that was a big mistake… because we have been knocking the hell out of them. They’re very difficult people,” Trump said to reporters at the White House, adding that the US has “taken away almost all of their military capabilities.”

He also stated that “we welcome investments in the US in exchange for providing protection for the Strait of Hormuz” after withdrawing from a suggestion on Monday that the US was going to impose a 20 percent toll through the Strait.
