Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani emphasized on Tuesday the importance of strengthening cooperation with Jordan in various judicial and legal fields.

The Ministry of Justice stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Minister of Justice Khalid Shawani received the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to the Republic of Iraq, Maher Salem Tarawneh, at the Ministry headquarters to discuss ways to enhance judicial and legal cooperation between the two brotherly countries."

"During the meeting, the possibility of amending the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Iraq and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan was discussed, with the aim of expanding cooperation to include the exchange of prisoners between Baghdad and Amman, based on the provisions of the Riyadh Agreement and in accordance with the legislation in force in both countries, thus strengthening legal and humanitarian cooperation between the two sides," the statement added.

"The Minister stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in various judicial and legal fields to achieve common interests and enhance the exchange of expertise between the two countries," the statement continued.

For his part, the ambassador expressed his country's readiness to enhance cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Justice and develop the bilateral partnership in a way that serves the interests of both countries and the two brotherly peoples, stressing the Kingdom's keenness to expand the areas of judicial and legal cooperation with Iraq.
