The American newspaper The National Interest confirmed on Monday that US President Donald Trump's team is very optimistic about the future of relations with Iraq, indicating that Trump expressed his hope to solidify Iraq's position under the leadership of Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi as a reliable partner for the United States.
The newspaper stated in a report followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi's efforts in combating corruption enjoy American and Western support," noting "progress in the file of monopoly weapons to the state, in addition to taking measures to reduce dollar smuggling."
The newspaper added that "the anticipated meeting between al-Zaidi and Trump could represent a new chapter in Iraqi-American relations," emphasizing that "what has been achieved during the short period since al-Zaidi assumed the premiership reinforces the Trump administration's optimism regarding his performance."
