Speaker of Parliament, Haybat al-Halbousi, affirmed to the head of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Iraq and the world his support for religious and cultural diversity in Iraq and his pride in the authentic Christian community.
Al-Halbousi received on Monday the head of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Iraq and the world, His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Paul III Nona, and the Archbishop of the Chaldean Archdiocese of Erbil, His Grace Bishop Bashar Matti Warda, and their accompanying delegation, the Speaker's Media Office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
During the meeting, the situation of the Christian community in Iraq was discussed, along with the importance of providing a suitable environment that guarantees its stability and active participation in various fields.
The Speaker of Parliament reiterated his support for religious and cultural diversity in Iraq and his pride in the authentic Christian community, noting the importance of preserving this diversity as a fundamental pillar of Iraq's identity and social fabric.
In turn, His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Paul III Nona expressed his gratitude to the Speaker of Parliament, emphasizing the importance of continuing joint efforts to promote a culture of dialogue and tolerance, which contributes to achieving stability.
