The High Committee for Million-Person Pilgrimages is closely monitoring the public funeral procession for Sayyed Ali Khamenei in the holy city of Najaf, the head of the Security Media Cell, Lieutenant General Saad Maan, said on Wednesday.
The committee was overseeing the procession from overpasses and along Thawrat al-Ishreen Street in Najaf province, Maan said in a video statement followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
He said the committee's chairman, accompanied by the deputy commander of the Joint Operations Command, was also supervising the public funeral procession.
The procession had covered around 1.5 km from its starting point as of the time of his remarks, Maan said.
Security and intelligence agencies, the Najaf police command and the High Committee were closely monitoring the procession to ensure it proceeded according to plan, he added.
Maan urged mourners to cooperate with security forces and comply with official instructions to facilitate the smooth movement of the procession.
