U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said on Wednesday it had begun launching a series of powerful strikes against Iran to impose "heavy costs" for what it described as Iran's targeting and attacks on commercial shipping crewed by innocent civilians in an international waterway.
In a statement monitored by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), CENTCOM said the strikes were launched in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
It added that Iran's actions were "unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire," stressing that the United States would continue taking the necessary measures to protect maritime navigation and ensure the security of international waterways.
