Iraqi Minister of Transport, Wahab al-Hassani, met today, Thursday, with his Jordanian counterpart, Nidal al-Qatamin, to discuss facilitating the movement of goods and cooperation in the land and rail sectors.
A statement from the Ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "Minister of Transport Wahab al-Hassani received his Jordanian counterpart, Nidal al-Qatamin, at the Ministers' Guest House in Baghdad to discuss a number of shared issues."
"Al-Qatamin began the meeting by expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome, stating that Jordan holds the Iraqi government in high regard, noting that there are significant opportunities for more effective cooperation, particularly in the transport sector," according to the statement.
For his part, al-Hassani highlighted Iraq's strategic importance as a hub for international trade for many countries and the numerous successes achieved in cooperation between Iraq and the Kingdom in this field.
"The two ministers agreed to maintain direct coordination between the relevant authorities in both countries and to work diligently to overcome all obstacles and problems facing the transport sector, thereby facilitating smoother trade and supporting regional connectivity projects, most notably the Development Road project," the statement added.
"Both sides also discussed a number of shared issues between the two countries and ways to enhance cooperation in land and maritime transport, in addition to exchanging expertise in maritime training," the statement continued.
"The meeting also addressed ways to facilitate the movement of goods and passengers, strengthen logistical connectivity, and develop cooperation in the field of land and rail transport, thereby enhancing economic integration between Iraq and Jordan," the statement concluded.
