Recently released official data shows a decrease in US crude oil and gasoline inventories, while distillate inventories rose, refinery utilization rates increased, and net imports rose last week.
The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported in its weekly report that crude oil inventories fell by 3.8 million barrels to settle at 408.4 million barrels. This decline was less than analysts' expectations in a Reuters poll, who had predicted a larger drop of up to 4.5 million barrels.
In a related development, the report indicated that crude oil inventories at the main delivery hub in Cushing, Oklahoma, increased by 709,000 barrels during the week ending June 26.
