The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Iraq, Titon Mitra, affirmed on Wednesday that the current government has taken significant steps to combat corruption and establish a Supreme Council for Integrity and Asset Recovery. He indicated that recovering financial assets could contribute to addressing the state's current deficit.

Mitra told the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The current government has taken significant steps to combat corruption, as evidenced by the formation of the Supreme Council for Integrity and Asset Recovery." He emphasized that "the UNDP is committed to providing technical support and transferring expertise and skills."

He added, "The legal and governance tools are already in place; what is lacking is implementation in the area of financial asset recovery." He explained that "estimates indicate the existence of tens of billions of dollars, and if these estimates are accurate and the state is able to recover them, it could help address the current national deficit."
