The head of the Communications and Media Commission, Baligh Abu Kalal, confirmed on Wednesday that the commission is proceeding with completing the legal and regulatory procedures to close the file of Korek Telecom, while indicating that it is proceeding with completing the procedures for the American Starlink service to keep pace with global developments.

Abu Kalal said in a speech during the launch of the third edition of the Iraqi Communications Summit, which was attended by a correspondent from the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The commission continues to complete the legal and regulatory procedures for ending the file of Korek Telecom Company, in accordance with the legal frameworks and applicable decisions, and preserves the rights of the state and enhances the confidence of investors in the Iraqi market.”

He added that "the commission views the future of the telecommunications market from a broader perspective, one that focuses on enhancing competition and not limiting it to just two operators," emphasizing that the commission is proceeding with completing the necessary regulatory and legal steps to create a suitable environment for the entry of a new national operator.

He pointed out that "these steps aim to serve the interests of the Iraqi market and strengthen confidence in the country's investment climate," explaining that "the commission is also continuing to open the Iraqi market to modern technologies and services that contribute to expanding user options and enhancing the investment environment."

He noted that "Iraq is proceeding with the final stages of introducing Starlink service, which will allow the introduction of one of the most prominent modern satellite communication technologies to the Iraqi market within a clear regulatory framework that safeguards national interests and keeps pace with global developments."

Abu Kalal pointed out that "Iraq's message to local and international investors is clear: to support investment, respect competition, uphold the rule of law, and work towards building a stable and fair telecommunications market capable of meeting future demands."
