The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced on Tuesday that the Artawi Project represents a strategic step toward processing 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Deputy Minister of Oil for Gas Affairs and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Deputy Minister of Oil for Gas Affairs Izzat Saber Ismail visited the Artawi Field in Basra Province, where he conducted an on-site inspection of progress on production units currently under construction. These include the Accelerated Gas Project (AG25) and the Gas Midstream Project (GMP). The Deputy Minister also chaired a meeting attended by officials from the companies involved in the projects.
The statement added that the Deputy Minister was accompanied by Ali Salman Majid, Director General of the South Gas Company; Abdul Rahman Hilal, Director of the Artawi Project; and Bassem Al-Ghalibi, Assistant Director General of the Basra Oil Company.
According to the statement, the Deputy Minister stressed the importance of the Artawi Project within the Ministry of Oil's plans to utilize associated gas, describing it as a significant addition to strengthening Iraq's energy sector, reducing emissions, and enhancing both economic and environmental returns.
He explained that the project's first phase is designed to process and treat up to 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, produced from the Artawi, West Qurna-2, and Majnoon oil fields. He emphasized the importance of completing the work according to the established timetable to help increase energy supplies and improve services provided to citizens.
The Deputy Minister also commended the efforts of the technical and engineering teams working on the development projects for their continued dedication despite existing challenges. He reaffirmed the Ministry of Oil's commitment to providing the necessary support to overcome obstacles and facilitate the timely implementation of the projects.
