Iraqi Justice Minister Khalid Shawani met on Saturday with the Lebanese Ambassador to Iraq, Khalil Abdullah, to discuss activating the prisoner exchange agreement between Baghdad and Beirut.
A statement from the ministry, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "Justice Minister Khalid Shawani received the Lebanese Ambassador to Iraq, Khalil Abdullah, at the ministry headquarters to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two brotherly countries."
According to the statement, the meeting included discussions on "mechanisms for activating the prisoner exchange agreement between the Republic of Iraq and the Lebanese Republic, following its ratification by the Iraqi Parliament, in preparation for its implementation and the commencement of procedures for transferring prisoners between Baghdad and Beirut, thereby strengthening bilateral cooperation and embodying the humanitarian dimensions of the agreement."
The statement added that both sides emphasized "the importance of developing bilateral relations and expanding areas of joint cooperation, which contributes to consolidating fraternal ties and serving the common interests of Iraq and Lebanon."
