The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed on Friday that Iraq is keen to continue its partnership with the United Nations in development and capacity building.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, received the UN Resident Coordinator in Iraq, Ghulam Mohammed Ishaq, at the Ministry headquarters, on the occasion of the end of his mission in Iraq."
The statement added that "the meeting came as Ishaq's mission in Baghdad concludes, after he spent nearly four years serving as the UN Resident Coordinator in Iraq, during which he oversaw the humanitarian and development programs and efforts implemented by the United Nations in the country."
According to the statement, the Undersecretary expressed "his appreciation for the efforts exerted by Ishaq and the UN team working in Iraq over the past years," praising "the important role played by the Resident Coordinator, particularly during the phase of ending the mandate of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), and the accompanying fruitful coordination and cooperation with the Iraqi government." For his part, Isaac expressed his pride in his time working in Iraq, noting the progress and development achieved in various fields. He emphasized that the cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations has shifted from focusing on humanitarian aid and responding to the effects of conflicts to supporting sustainable development efforts, promoting stability, and building capacity, thus contributing to consolidating opportunities for development and prosperity for future generations.
