The Border Forces Command announced on Thursday that it had foiled an attempt to smuggle 34 kilograms of narcotics using a hot air balloon in the Trebil border area.
According to a statement issued by the command and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), patrols from the Third Regiment of the Sixth Border Brigade thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic pills via a hot air balloon in Trebil, along the international border west of Anbar Province.
The statement added that the operation was carried out after the balloon was detected by thermal surveillance cameras and subsequently brought down. Upon inspection, it was found to be carrying 197,000 Captagon pills, with a total weight of 34 kilograms.
