US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces conducted an airstrike in northwestern Syria on June 19, resulting in the death of a senior leader of the ISIS terrorist group.

In a statement, CENTCOM said, "US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted an airstrike in northwestern Syria on June 19, resulting in the death of a senior ISIS leader."

The statement added, "This precision strike killed Ali Hussein al-Alawi. This strike is part of ongoing US efforts to eliminate terrorists, as US Central Command forces continue to work alongside regional partners."

The statement quoted Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US Central Command, as saying, "CENTCOM and our partners remain committed to eradicating the remaining ISIS remnants to ensure its lasting defeat."

He added, "We will continue to defend US territory, our personnel, and our allies and partners throughout the region."
