The statement added that “the meeting discussed ways to strengthen relations between Iraq and the European Union in a manner that serves mutual interests, as well as several issues of common concern.”

Al-Araji affirmed, according to the statement, that “the Prime Minister is keen to deepen relations with the international community in general, and with the European Union in particular,” noting “the existence of a government vision to build national security institutions in line with the Iraq First strategy.”

He noted that “there are several areas of cooperation between the National Security Advisory and the European Union, most notably the national security strategy, the committee on countering violent extremism, security sector reform, and other dossiers that contribute to supporting stability and peace.”

The statement added that Stefano Tomat congratulated Al-Araji on assuming his new duties, wishing him success, and affirming the European Union’s keenness to further develop relations with Iraq across various fields in a way that contributes to political and economic stability.
