Head of the Supreme Islamic Council Sheikh Humam Hammoudi on Sunday stressed the need for collective cooperation to overcome the challenges of environmental pollution, desertification and drought.
A statement issued by the Supreme Islamic Council, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said that Sheikh Hammoudi received Minister of Environment and Acting Minister of Culture Sarwa Abdul Wahid, with the two discussing the latest political developments, as well as the ministry’s plans and priorities in confronting increasing environmental challenges.
According to the statement, Hammoudi underscored the difficulty of the responsibilities assigned to the Ministry of Environment and the need for cooperation from all parties to address challenges linked to environmental pollution, desertification and drought, stressing that this does not only represent a healthy, civilization and humanitarian path, but also reflects the political state of the country and the direction of its development programs.
He called for the development of a modern vision for environmental protection in Iraq, alongside media and cultural mobilization to raise awareness and transform the issue into a public concern in which citizens can participate, reiterating the need for collective cooperation to overcome the challenges of environmental pollution, desertification and drought.
