The National Security Service announced on Saturday that it has begun performing its assigned duties at several border crossings and checkpoints.
"In implementation of the directives of the Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces regarding strengthening control over border crossings and combating smuggling, in accordance with the granted powers, detachments of the Service have begun taking the necessary measures to assume their assigned duties at several border crossings and checkpoints," the Service said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
The Service emphasized the importance of "implementing government directives with high precision and utilizing all intelligence, technical, and field capabilities to tighten control over border crossings and prevent smuggling operations or violations of applicable regulations, thereby contributing to protecting the national economy and strengthening state resources."
“Detachments of the National Security Service have begun to be present inside the customs inspection and exchange areas and the sites specified within the executive plan, to monitor and detect any violations or smuggling attempts, in cooperation and coordination with the General Authority of Customs, the Border Ports Authority, and the rest of the competent security agencies," according to the statement.
