The head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, emphasized today, Thursday, the importance of continuing constructive cooperation with the United Nations to serve the interests of Iraq and its people.

The media office of the head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that "the head of the Reconstruction and Development Coalition, Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, met with the UN Resident Coordinator in Iraq, Ghulam Mohammad Ishaq Zai, on the occasion of the end of his official duties in the country."

The statement added that "during the meeting, the progress of cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations was reviewed, as well as the joint programs implemented during the past period in various fields, which enhance support for stability and development and contribute to strengthening the partnership between the two sides."

Zei expressed his "gratitude and appreciation to Al-Sudani," commending "the facilities, support, and positive cooperation the UN mission received during his tenure in Iraq, particularly regarding the signing of the UN Sustainable Development Framework for 2025–2029, which took place during Al-Sudani's government. This enabled the UN to continue its work in Iraq within a safe and orderly transition, and in accordance with strategic priorities that include inclusive social development, sustainable economic development, providing livelihoods and job opportunities, adapting to environmental and climate changes, and strengthening good governance and the rule of law."

For his part, Al-Sudani "commended the efforts made by the UN Resident Coordinator throughout his tenure in Iraq," wishing him "success in his future endeavors," and emphasizing "the importance of continuing constructive cooperation with the UN in a way that serves the interests of Iraq and its people."
