President Nizar Amedi affirmed on Thursday that a free and responsible press represents a fundamental pillar in the construction of a modern state.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency’s Media Office and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), President Amedi received a delegation from the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad.
The statement noted that the meeting reviewed the state of journalistic work in Iraq and explored ways to strengthen the role of national media in promoting public awareness and conveying facts professionally. Discussions also addressed the challenges facing the journalistic community and the need to provide an appropriate environment that enables journalists to fulfill their mission.
President Amedi stressed that a free and responsible press is an essential foundation of a modern state, emphasizing the importance of supporting journalists and ensuring conditions that allow them to perform their work with freedom and independence.
He also highlighted the important role of the media in enhancing public awareness, promoting the values of citizenship, and fostering an informed public opinion based on accurate and reliable information. He further underscored the importance of adhering to professional and ethical standards and establishing credible, responsible media practices that strengthen public trust in media institutions.
For their part, members of the delegation expressed their appreciation for the President’s support and attention to the journalistic community, affirming their commitment to continuing responsible work in service of the nation and the public interest.
