National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji affirmed on Wednesday that the agreement between the United States and Iran is an important step that serves the interests of the region and the world.
The National Security Advisor's media office stated in a press release, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji received the Australian Ambassador to Baghdad, Glenn Miles."
According to the statement, the two sides discussed "strengthening bilateral relations between Iraq and Australia and ways to continue cooperation between the two friendly countries on all levels, as well as reviewing the latest developments on the regional and international scenes."
Al-Araji affirmed that "supporting the ceasefire agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran is a significant step that serves the interests of the region and the world, given its role in strengthening security and economic stability and supporting sustainable development,he emphasized that "peace is the best option, and that conflicts and wars negatively impact the security of the region and its people."
It pointed to "the importance of respecting international law and adhering to UN Security Council resolutions in addressing crises and resolving conflicts," explaining that "Iraq is part of its Arab environment, and its relations with various countries are based on shared interests and balanced cooperation, contributing to the formation of an integrated regional system, particularly in the security and economic spheres."
It explained that "the government is proceeding with the project to restrict weapons to the state, a purely Iraqi decision, in support of reconstruction and development efforts."
For his part, the Australian ambassador affirmed "his country's keenness to develop relations with Iraq in a way that serves mutual interests," noting "his government's support for peace and stability efforts in the region."
