Parliament Speaker: We Will Continue to Protect Freedoms and Support the Legal Framework for Journalistic Work

The Speaker of the Council of Representatives, Haibat Al-Halbousi, affirmed today, Monday, the continued commitment to protecting freedoms and supporting the legal environment necessary for journalists to carry out their work.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Halbousi said “On the occasion of the 157th anniversary of Iraqi Press Day, we extend our congratulations to Iraqi journalists, wishing them continued success and further contributions in service to the country.”

He added “On this occasion, we also honor the memory of the martyrs of Iraqi journalism who sacrificed their lives while carrying out their professional duties. We reaffirm our commitment to continuing legislative efforts that safeguard public freedoms and strengthen the legal framework required for journalists to perform their work in accordance with the Constitution and the law.”
