Trump says he believes Iran’s supreme leader has approved deal

US President Donald Trump says he believes Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has approved the agreement that Washington says is being finalised with Tehran.

Asked in the Oval Office whether Khamenei had signed off on the deal, Trump replied: “I understand the answer is yes.”

Iran's Tasnim News Agency dismissed Trump's statements so far: "Until Iran announces the matter of a potential understanding, any news from Trump on this subject should be regarded as his previous messages," it said.

Axios News, which is close to the Trump administration and has often reported a deal was close only for talks to fall through, said the agreement still needed to be approved by Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

Trump also said that once an agreement is finalised, the US would immediately lift its blockade on Iranian ports.

“And you’ll have oil prices dropping like a rock,” he told reporters.
