Baghdad – INA

The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) announced on Monday the arrest of a senior figure in the banned Baath Party in Nineveh province.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the PMF said a force from the Nineveh Operations Command's Intelligence Division (Brigade 30 Intelligence) carried out a special security operation that resulted in the arrest of a leader of the banned Baath Party in Nineveh, pursuant to a judicial arrest warrant.

The statement said the operation followed sustained intelligence efforts involving extensive surveillance, information gathering and analysis over several months, culminating in what it described as a highly professional and precise security operation that successfully achieved its objective.

According to the PMF, the operation was part of ongoing efforts to apprehend individuals wanted by the judiciary, dismantle the remnants of the banned Baath Party, enhance security and stability, and reinforce state authority in Nineveh province.
