The Ministry of Defense announced on Friday the martyrdom of three of its personnel and the injury of five others in a traffic accident on the Baghdad–Kirkuk road.

The ministry said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “With profound sadness and sorrow, the Ministry of Defense mourns a group of its heroic personnel who attained martyrdom following a tragic traffic accident that occurred today, Friday, June 5, 2026, on the main (Baghdad–Kirkuk) road opposite the village of Maftoul.”

It added that the accident resulted in the martyrdom of the fighters Ahmed Falfil Salman (assigned to the 32nd Brigade / Eighth Division), Iyad Dirham Radi (assigned to the 32nd Brigade / Eighth Division), and Ahmed Hakim Kassab (assigned to the Second Special Forces Division).

The statement continued that the accident also resulted in the injury of Ahmed Adnan Naji, Mohammed Abdullah Dhahir, Raed Ismail Khalil, Azhar Jihad Nima, and Bashar Abdul Hassoun, who are currently receiving medical treatment in hospital.
