The American Heart Association emphasized that preventing cardiovascular disease depends primarily on making simple, healthy daily choices early on, which will benefit individuals throughout their lives. The association warned that lack of exercise and poor diet are among the most prominent habits that negatively impact overall health over the years.
In a medical report followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the association stated that "anyone, regardless of age, can take simple steps to maintain heart health by engaging in sufficient physical activity and following a balanced diet that reduces the risk of heart disease and stroke."
The association stressed "the need to increase the duration of aerobic physical activity to at least 150 minutes per week for adults, along with practicing muscle strengthening exercises for two or more days a week, while children need at least 60 minutes of daily physical activity," while also calling for "the need to recognize the warning signs of heart attacks and strokes, whose symptoms may differ between women and men."
