The National Center for International Judicial Cooperation chaired, on Thursday, an international dialogue on terrorism-related issues.

A statement from the judiciary, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), said that the center chaired a practical dialogue on international judicial cooperation and the exchange of evidence in terrorism cases linked to Iraq. The event was organized by the International Institute for Justice and the Rule of Law (IIJ) in The Hague, with support from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO).

It added that the dialogue was chaired on behalf of the Supreme Judicial Council by Judge Ali Hussein Jafaat, Head of the National Center for International Judicial Cooperation. The meeting brought together a group of criminal justice specialists from European Union countries, the United States, Canada, and Australia, along with representatives of international and regional institutions involved in judicial cooperation and counterterrorism, including Eurojust, Europol, and Interpol.

The statement noted that the discussions reviewed the mandate of the National Center for International Judicial Cooperation and the frameworks through which it operates, in addition to the exchange of international expertise and practices regarding the handling of evidence, witness testimony, and digital and technological evidence in terrorism-related and transnational organized crime cases.

Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening practical cooperation between Iraq and its international partners and developing mechanisms for the exchange of evidence and information, in a way that supports accountability efforts, the achievement of justice, and counterterrorism at both the national and international levels.
