The head of the Popular Mobilization Forces, Faleh al-Fayyadh, offered condolences on Thursday over the passing of Grand Ayatollah Muhammad Ishaq al-Fayyadh, describing him as one of the pillars of the Islamic seminary and a foundational figure in its intellectual tradition.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Fayyadh expressed his deep sorrow and sympathy over the loss of the senior cleric, extending condolences to the Iraqi people, senior religious authorities, scholars, students of the seminary, and all admirers of the late scholar.

He said the deceased had been “one of the pillars of the Islamic seminary and its firmly rooted foundations,” noting that he devoted his life to serving knowledge and religion and left behind a “rich scholarly legacy” in research, authorship, and jurisprudential reasoning, in addition to his continued support for humanitarian and charitable institutions.

Al-Fayyadh also recalled the late cleric’s notable positions, particularly in the period following the fall of the former regime, describing him as one of the prominent supporters of efforts to consolidate principles of justice. He further highlighted his supportive stance toward the “Jihad al-Kifai” religious decree, saying it had a significant impact on defending Iraq, its people, and its sovereignty.

He concluded by praying that God Almighty grant the deceased vast mercy, admit him into paradise, and place him among the prophets, the truthful, and the righteous.
