PM Ali Faleh al-Zaidi commended on Wednesday the position of the leader of the Shiite National Movement, Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr, regarding the integration of the Saraya al-Salam formations into the state.
“We commend the responsible national position announced by the leader of the Shiite National Movement, Sayyid Muqtada Al-Sadr, regarding the integration of Saraya Al-Salam formations into the state and placing them under the authority of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in support of state institutions and the consolidation of state sovereignty and the rule of law,” according to a statement from the PM Media Office, received by the Iraqi News Agency - INA.
He highlighted, saying, “We affirm that this initiative represents an important step toward strengthening internal stability, reinforcing the principle of restricting weapons to the state, and supporting the security forces in carrying out their national and constitutional duties.”
Al-Zaidi called on all armed factions “to follow the same responsible national path and operate under the umbrella of the state and its official institutions, to guarantee the protection of Iraq, preserve its sovereignty, and strengthen security and stability, based on the principle that the state is the sole authority entitled to monopolize arms and enforce the law.”
“The current stage requires concerted efforts from all parties, prioritizing the supreme national interest, preserving Iraq’s unity, security, and stability, and strengthening citizens’ confidence in their constitutional institutions under a strong state governed by the rule of law,” he underscored.
