Iraqi President Nizar Amedi and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday emphasized the urgent need to halt ongoing wars and defuse regional tensions through dialogue and diplomacy, stressing that understanding is vital to establishing long-term security and stability.

According to a statement issued by the Iraqi presidency, President Amedi received a phone call from Iranian President Pezeshkian, who extended his congratulations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

"Both presidents expressed their wishes for further progress, elevation, and prosperity for the Muslim nations of Iraq and Iran, and for security, stability, and welfare to prevail in both countries and the wider region," the statement said.

The two leaders underscored the importance of Islamic unity and fostering solidarity among Muslim nations. They also reviewed the bilateral relationship between the neighboring countries, reaffirming their commitment to enhancing and developing ties across the political, economic, and trade sectors to serve mutual interests.

During the call, President Pezeshkian extended an official invitation to President Amedi to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran to further consolidate bilateral relations and expand horizons for joint cooperation, the statement added.
