Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi directed the Federal Board of Supreme Audit on Monday to utilize international Companies for data auditing, emphasizing that the Board is the most important oversight institution in Iraq and the region.
In a statement during today's cabinet meeting, which was followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Zaidi said, "The Federal Board of Supreme Audit is the most important oversight institution in Iraq, as well as in the region. The Board is as much preventative as it is supervisory." He stressed "the necessity of auditing financial data within a period not exceeding the seventh month of each year."
He added, "If there are minor observations, they should be addressed in the future, while if they are substantial, they should be referred to the court." He directed the Board to "utilize international companies, under any framework, that employ the appropriate oversight methods and handle various data."
Al-Zaidi confirmed that "a decision has been made to form a central committee to monitor strategic projects. This committee will study the projects, in addition to assigning economic experts from the ministries to oversee them." He pointed out that "the approach of the Audit Bureau must change, and the obstruction of its work has become unacceptable," explaining that "there are companies that have not been audited by the Audit Bureau for years."
