The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, and the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, emphasized on Sunday the importance of correcting the course of the political process and filling the vacant ministerial positions.

The media office of the head of the State of Law Coalition stated in a statement, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, received the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, and his accompanying delegation at his office today."

According to the statement, the meeting addressed "the overall political developments and the general situation in the country, in addition to discussing the nature of relations between Baghdad and Erbil and ways to strengthen them in a manner that serves the supreme national interest."

Both sides stressed "the importance of maintaining bilateral relations and consolidating cooperation and coordination between the Islamic Dawa Party and the Kurdistan Democratic Party based on the constitution and national partnership, in a way that contributes to supporting political stability and strengthening the unity of the country."

They stressed "the necessity of achieving political consensus among the various national forces and components, and adopting dialogue and understanding to address outstanding issues, in a way that preserves national balance and strengthens mutual trust among all parties."

According to the statement, the meeting emphasized "the importance of correcting the course of the political process, filling the vacant ministerial positions in the government, and adhering to political agreements and charters without violating them, as these are the foundation for building a genuine partnership that guarantees stability and preserves the rights of all Iraqi components."

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed "their determination to continue intensive consultations and coordination in this regard, to monitor developments and assess emerging issues in order to formulate common positions and take the necessary legitimate measures and actions to fulfill the aspirations of the Iraqi people in all their components."
