National Security Adviser Qasim al-Araji on Sunday stressed the importance of working in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution and respecting human rights.

This came during his reception of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Baghdad, in the presence of Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, according to a statement by the Office of the National Security Adviser received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Both sides affirmed, during the meeting, the importance of joint action and continued cooperation in the interest of Iraq, and in a way that enhances its unity and stability.

Al-Araji said Barzani’s visit to Baghdad represents a significant message reflecting the depth of national relations between Baghdad and Erbil, stressing the importance of adhering to the Constitution and respecting human rights in a manner that strengthens national unity and stability.

He added that Iraq’s strength lies in the strength of the Kurdistan Region, just as the strength of the Kurdistan Region is reinforced when Baghdad is strong, noting that the visit carries important strategic dimensions that serve Iraq and its people and reflect a spirit of brotherhood and mutual respect.

For his part, Barzani said his visit aims to support the new government, exchange views, and make use of available opportunities to resolve outstanding issues in accordance with the Constitution.

He pointed to a shared history of struggle, including the fight against ISIS terrorist groups , as well as the displacement and suffering that accompanied it.
