Karkh Criminal Court on Sunday sentenced a convicted man to hard labour after finding him guilty of impersonating a judge.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Supreme Judicial Council said the court handed down a four-year hard labour sentence for the offence of impersonating a public official.

It added that the convict had posed as a judge and as an employee of the Integrity Commission in order to obtain financial gain. The ruling was issued under provisions of Decision No. 160 of 1983, Article 1, Paragraphs 1 and 2.
