U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that a preliminary agreement has been reached between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran, adding that the deal includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said he held a “very productive” call from the Oval Office at the White House with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as well as several other regional and international leaders and officials.
He said the discussions covered the Islamic Republic of Iran and all matters related to a memorandum of understanding on peace, noting that the agreement had been “largely negotiated” and was awaiting final details between the United States, Iran, and other participating countries.
Trump added that he also held a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, which “went very well,” stressing that final aspects of the deal were still being discussed ahead of an imminent announcement.
He said the agreement includes several other elements, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
