Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on Thursday that Iraq looks forward to hearing news of an end to the war and the return of stability in the region.
According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Hussein held a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who reiterated his congratulations on Hussein’s reappointment as foreign minister.
The Iranian foreign minister briefed Hussein on the latest developments in ongoing negotiations, noting progress in the latest round, particularly regarding a new negotiating paper.
Both sides stressed the importance of Pakistan’s role in this context, praising its efforts to support the negotiation process, and also highlighted the importance of Qatar’s engagement at this stage.
Hussein expressed appreciation for the briefing and welcomed what he described as positive developments in the negotiating track.
He praised Araghchi’s efforts to advance the process and stressed the need to end military operations in the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible and lift the blockade on Iran.
He concluded by saying Iraq looks forward to positive outcomes leading to an end to the war and the restoration of normal life for the peoples of the region, reiterating his thanks for the communication and updates on the talks.
