Defense ministers of the coalition formed to secure the Strait of Hormuz said on Thursday that the coalition’s mission would complement diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the dispute between the United States and Iran.
A joint statement by the coalition’s defense ministers said the mission to reopen the Strait of Hormuz would operate in support of the diplomatic process and separately from any other military campaign, while maintaining clear communication channels to reduce escalation with all concerned countries and partners.
The statement added that the mission would support civilian shipping, ensure the safety of commercial tankers, and conduct mine-clearing operations.
It also noted that operations would not begin until conditions are deemed suitable and in full accordance with international law.
