Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire between the United States and Iran on Tuesday.
A statement from the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, reported by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), indicated that "Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar discussed with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi the latest developments in the region and Islamabad's mediation efforts to end the conflict between the United States and Iran."
"Both sides stressed the importance of maintaining a permanent ceasefire and ensuring the smooth passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz," the statement added that
Talks are scheduled to take place in Beijing later this week between US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
Earlier on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States is in direct contact with Iranian officials.
"We are in direct contact with Iranian officials, and we are not in a hurry to reach an agreement," Trump stated in a press conference.
