Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari on Sunday ordered a ban on armed displays during the implementation of the security plan for the commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Muhammad al-Jawad.
According to a statement from the Interior Ministry received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Al-Shammari, who heads the Higher Security Committee for Mass Pilgrimages, chaired an expanded conference at the headquarters of the Second Federal Police Division, attended by the service committee, several commanders, officers, and relevant authorities, to discuss ongoing preparations for securing the commemoration in the holy city of Kadhimiya.
The statement said Al-Shammari listened to a detailed briefing on the pilgrimage routes and the deployment of forces assigned to secure the roads leading to the holy city, in addition to recommendations regarding the movement of pilgrims and discussions on the logistical and human resources capabilities of the security agencies assigned to each sector.
It added that the conference also discussed the service plan and traffic arrangements aimed at facilitating the movement of pilgrims to and from the area, while reviewing civil defense plans and preparations by ministries and relevant bodies.
The minister also issued several directives, including banning armed displays during the pilgrimage, stressing that the work of the security and service committees must be integrated to ensure the success of the occasion. He also directed enhanced coordination with procession organizers and stressed the importance of enforcing safety measures by civil defense teams.
Al-Shammari further emphasized the importance of intelligence efforts during the operation and the need to prepare reserves for each security agency.
The conference included a series of discussions and interventions aimed at ensuring the occasion is conducted in a manner befitting its significance.
