National Security Adviser, Qasim al-Araji, stressed on Sunday the importance of maintaining security and stability in the region, while Italian Ambassador to Baghdad Niccolò Fontana praised the Iraqi government’s role in promoting de-escalation and easing tensions across the Middle East.

According to a statement issued by the National Security Adviser’s media office and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), al-Araji met with Ambassador Fontana to discuss strengthening friendship and cooperation between Iraq and Italy in particular, and with the European Union more broadly, across various fields.

The two sides also reviewed the latest developments in the Middle East and underscored the importance of establishing peace and stability through understandings that serve the interests of both states and peoples.

During the meeting, al-Araji emphasized the importance of regional security and stability, noting that “the world’s future depends on dialogue, mutual understanding, and prioritizing the interests of peoples and nations.”

For his part, the Italian ambassador commended “the Iraqi government’s role in de-escalation and tension-reduction efforts in the region,” highlighting Iraq’s active diplomatic role and its consistent calls for a balanced policy that serves its national interests.
