The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, on Thursday congratulated Iraqi President Nizar Amidi on assuming office, emphasizing the significance of his presidency and the formation of a new government.

According to a statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency’s media office and received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), President Nizar Amedi received a congratulatory message from Guterres on the occasion of taking office, with the UN chief wishing him success in his duties.

Guterres stated in his message that Amedi’s assumption of the presidency, alongside the formation of a new government, represents an important step toward advancing efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development and strengthening participation and representation for all components of Iraqi society.

The UN Secretary-General also expressed the organization’s commitment to continuing constructive cooperation with Iraq in support of development, stability, and the aspirations of the Iraqi people.
