U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States had held “very good” talks on Iran over the past 24 hours, and suggested a deal with Tehran could be reached.
In remarks followed by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), Trump said Iran “no longer has any effective air defense systems or radars,” adding that Tehran is “seeking strongly to reach an agreement.”
He said that if the United States were to step away from the current situation, it could take Iran around 20 years to rebuild its capabilities.
Trump added that the talks held over the past 24 hours were “very good,” and said there was a strong possibility of reaching an agreement soon.
In a related comment, Trump said that targeting Iranian leadership would, in his view, amount to “regime change,” reiterating that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
