The Ministry of Transport announced that an earthquake was recorded in Sulaymaniyah governorate, which was felt by residents of the capital, Baghdad.
In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the ministry said that “seismic monitoring stations at the Iraqi Meteorological Organization recorded an earthquake on Tuesday evening (2026/05/05) within Iraqi territory, approximately 15 km north of Kalar city in Sulaymaniyah governorate in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, with a magnitude of 4.8.”
It added that “the tremor was felt in several areas across Iraq, including the capital, Baghdad.”
