Baghdad – INA

The General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring announced on Saturday that Iraq will be affected by a drop in temperatures starting Monday.

In a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the Authority said, "The outputs of the numerical weather models used in the Weather Forecasting Department of the General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring indicate that the country will be affected by a relatively moderate air mass, with temperatures below the prevailing climatic averages for this time of year. This is due to a high-pressure system moving in from the Mediterranean Sea, accompanied by an air mass with lower than usual thermal characteristics, resulting in a noticeable drop in temperatures, reaching values 8-10°C below the average in some areas."

She explained that "the impact of the air mass will begin on Monday, May 4, on the cities of the central and northern regions, then gradually extend on Tuesday, May 5, to include the cities of the southern region, and will continue until the end of the week," noting that "accordingly, the weather tends to be moderate during the daytime hours, while it becomes pleasant to relatively cool during the night and early morning hours."
